Why should I join the Charge Your Car network?
Charge Your Car connects your charge points to the UK’s open recharging national network, giving you access to all EV drivers and enabling you to generate income from your charge points.
We will promote your charge points nationally and collect revenues from EV drivers on your behalf. You can monitor usage via your personalised pages of the website and receive alerts in the case of a fault with your charge point(s). It is the most advanced, cost-effective and flexible way to optimise use of your charge points.
How do I join the Charge Your Car network?
Simply contact us for information or to enrol.
I have charge points from different manufacturers, can I still register them on Charge Your Car?
Yes. Charge Your Car is an open network which means that charge points produced by any manufacturer can be included on the network, provided they use the industry-standard Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP).
What is an OCPP compliant charge point?
OCPP is an open protocol between charging stations and a central charge point management system (CPMS). It allows any compliant charging station from any charge point manufacturer to connect to the network and for this reason has been chosen by Charge Your Car to create the UK’s first ‘open source’ network, accessible by all charge point owners, all network operators, all charge point manufacturers and all EV drivers.
OCPP started as an initiative for the 10,000 E-Laad charging stations in the Netherlands. It has now been adopted by several similar initiatives and charge point manufacturers in Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United States.
If you already own charge points and/or operate a charge point network, please speak to your supplier. If you do not yet own charge points, we can provide you with a list of suppliers that provide OCPP compliant charge points.
What are the fees to connect charge points to Charge Your Car?
You pay an annual fee per charge point to cover the cost of charge point connection, data consumption, promotion of the network and operation of the EV driver helpdesk. You also pay for the electricity consumed by your charge points.
In return you receive an income from the revenues generated by your charge points, payable to you on a quarterly basis.

Where are charge points located?
Charge Your Car began in North East England and the network in that part of the country already consists of hundreds of charge points. We are adding new charge points to the network every month. There are currently over 2,000 charge points on the network, with a target of 10,000 by 2020.
Charge point locations can be found on the live map on the website and on the Charge Your Car app. Download the app free from the App Store or from Google Play.
I don’t currently own charge points but would like to introduce them to my area, can you help?
Definitely. Charge Your Car accredited charge point manufacturers that supply OCPP charge points include ABB, APT, DBT, Elektromotive, ICU and Siemens.
For public sector organisations, we can also provide support to access a public procurement framework for charge point supply, installation and maintenance.
